Harry Styles’ appearance in Vogue magazine was the starting point for men’s skirts to become a fashion trend this Fall
Stefan Cooke and Ludovic de Saint Sernin surprised everyone by including men’s skirts in their Fall 2021 collections. A comfortable garment that little by little has gained more acceptance in men.
Much of the reception of the skirt as a men’s garment is due to the fact that several celebrities have recently worn it in their latest public appearances. That has been the case with Bad Bunny, Post Malone and Jaden Smith.

However, Harry Styles is undoubtedly one of the greatest references for men’s skirts. The singer appeared in Vogue magazine wearing a knitted skirt from Wales Bonner and a Scottish one from Comme des Garçons.
For many, this was the starting point for the world’s designers to include men’s skirts in their 2021 collections. This aspect was also influenced by the freedom that men had in their dress code during the pandemic. The suits were replaced by comfortable clothes and the skirt is undoubtedly the best option to continue on this path.

In an interview with Vogue, De Saint Sernin spoke about the implementation of men’s skirts in his Fall 2021 collection. For the designer, including a garment that is conventionally feminine in a man’s outfit was a challenge.
«It’s just really fun, I guess, being able to wear something that usually belongs to womenswear, and at the same time keeping the look believable on a man.», he said.
In his collection Ludovic de Saint Sernin presented a short skirt with a blue and orange pattern. A men’s skirt that can be «liberating» for the designer.

«I love the idea of men’s skirts, I find it very liberating», Ludovic de Saint Sernin.
For many, seeing a man in a skirt can be unusual. However, more and more men are joining in wearing this type of garment.
That is one of Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s dreams. The designer confesses that one of his wishes is to normalize the use of men’s skirts. The fashion artist openly supports this initiative because of the comfort that these garments offer.

«It will probably be a little while before it comes as no surprise to see a guy in a skirt on the street. However, I definitely support it and want to see it more often», he said in the interview.
Although a garment should not define a person’s sexual orientation, men’s skirts tend to create this perception. This is stated by Mark Bryan, an American engineer who has been wearing a skirt for more than four years.
«Sometimes I just say that I’m straight, but there are times I’ll go off on some, mostly men, when asked. I’ll respond with something like «why would me wearing a skirt make you think of my sexual preferences?» or «would you ask that same question if I was wearing pants?», or «Do you ask a women wearing a skirt and heels her sexual preferences?»‘ Said the 61-year-old man.

Even so, the ‘influencer’ states that he receives very few negative comments on social media. According to him, only «5%» of the opinions he receives on the Internet are negative. However, this is offset by the comfort that men’s skirts offer you.
«Skirts offer me more than traditional men’s pants,» said Mark Bryan.
